Monday, October 20, 2014 - 6:00 PM
In attendance: Dana Andrews, Wendy Ward, Trish Farrell, Lisa Heath, Sue Peterson, Tracey Avery and Stephanie Bednaz
Item of Interest: BHVS was just named a School of Excellence! We are only one of 7 schools in the state to receive this award.
Project Promise-Lights on After Dark Event to take place on 10/23.
Pride in Our Stride: This was the 4th Annual Pride in Our Stride event. This year was a much better parent turnout to come and watch the children and cheer them on than previous years. Discussed ways to get the parents and teachers to run/walk with the children. Possibly have a raffle for all parents and teachers that participate?
How can we better communicate and stay in touch with parents?
• Email reminders for activities and Fun PTCO events.
• Monthly newsletter written from the PTCO, including activities going on in the community, and information of interest for parents and children.
• Facebook page-make sure to like Bridgewater-Hebron PTCO on Facebook.
• Suggestion of getting a sign that can be put in front of the school, that can be changed to list upcoming events. Should it be a banner or permanent? If we use a banner we could hang it from the fence so parent’s at Parent Pick up can see it. We could have some made for Pride in Our Stride and the Hebron Tree Decorating and change the date from year to year.
Hebron Tree Decorating: Friday, December 5, 2014 at 3:30 PM
Discussed ways to add more interest to the event. Lisa will look into possibly doing a sleigh ride. Other ideas: Christmas Caroling, winter games, wear a crazy hat. We will make sure to do an activity before the tree decorating to ensure that every arrives in time to help decorate. Last year decorating the tree went by very fast and some children didn’t get a chance to decorate.
Ornament making for the trees: PTCO will work with children before school (7:30-8 am) on Monday 12/1, Tuesday 12/2 and Wednesday 12/3 to make ornaments. Try to make ornaments that don’t fall apart as easily, due to lot’s of pieces being found on the ground months later. Ornament helpers will be: 12/1 Janice and Josiah Towne; 12/2 Bednaz Family; 12/3 Lisa Heath and Wendy Ward.
We need to get in touch with the Bridgewater Town Offices about decorating their tree.
Need to assign someone to contact them? Also need to pick a date/time. Last year
Project Promise children went over and decorated the Bridgewater tree.
Reminder that the Boutique will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 (set-up
12/16 in the afternoon). Lisa and Tracey will oversee the Boutique again this year.
Need to have coffee and breakfast of some sort and a lunch for helpers.
The next PTCO meeting will take place on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 6 PM in the
Monday, September 15, 2014 - 6:00 PM
In attendance: Dana Andrews, Kathleen Connor, Wendy Ward, Trish Farrell, Lisa Heath, Sue
Peterson, Janice Towne, Josiah Towne, Tracey Avery and Stephanie Bednaz
Welcome to new members. Discussion of what PTCO is.
The purpose of the PTCO is to raise funds for events and equipment for the school. To promote family engagement with the school. Kathleen Connor announced that she will be stepping down from the PTCO and won’t be as active due to her new commitment of working at Danbury Elementary School as well as BHVS.
Finances: Should the PTCO be privatized or continue to be run as it has been financially? Voted to keep things as they are.
Fundraising: Our past fundraisers have been 100% profitable and usually involve the children in some way (Pride in our Stride, Artwork sale).
some new ideas for fundraising: NH Fun Pass- 25% of Fun Passes sold would go back to the school Lowe’s offers a grant
Kohl’s: if someone from Kohl’s helps at one of our functions (Kohl’s employee community
service) Kohl’s will give $500 to the school.
Pedometers: Look into using some of the funds to purchase pedometers for the school. Maybe do a pedometer fundraiser? This would be a great way for kid’s to see how many steps they are getting in each day and promote exercise. Could us the pedometer as a learning tool for math and graphing. To keep the cost down we could buy enough for a couple of classrooms and then the classes could rotate use of the pedometers.
Discussion of upcoming events:
• Open House Thursday, October 2, 2014
Will offer a bake sale table again. Instead of prices ask for donations. The PTCO will have a flyer on the bake sale table describing what the PTCO is and how families can be involved. The district will be offering fingerprinting that night for parents that are interested in volunteering at the school in the future.
The book fair will be open the night of the Open House. Talk with Joanna Marcotte to see if she needs help setting up on Wednesday or help running book fair.
• Pride in Our Stride October 15, 2014 (rain date October 22, 2014)
Kathleen Connor will take the lead on Pride in Our Stride. Stephanie Bednaz will talk with Cardigan Mt. Orchard for a donation of apples. Check with Mrs. Kernen about getting fun music for the loudspeakers.
• Lights on After Dark October 23
Project Promise has approached the PTCO to see if we would like to have a table/activity at this event. Last year we had an information board.
Lisa Heath, Sue Peterson and Trish Farrell will coordinate. Possibly use the giant lawn games that we used at the spring BBQ.
• Holiday Boutique Wednesday, December 17, 2014 (set-up 12/16 in the afternoon)
Lisa and Tracey will oversee the Boutique again this year. Ask people to start saving small boxes and Christmas gift bags for wrapping. Need to have coffee and breakfast of some sort and a lunch for helpers.

Sue Peterson will talk to the Willey family about getting birch wood circles to use for ornaments.
Ornament helpers will be: 12/1 Janice and Josiah Towne; 12/2 Bednaz Family; 12/3 Lisa Heath and Wendy Ward Discussion of how to get more parent’s involved in PTCO meetings:
How to recruit and get contact information:
Sign up and information sheets at the Open House Bake Sale (Lisa Heath will work on this) Information and sign up to be sent home in weekly newsletter other ideas to think about: have meetings be kid friendly, afternoon meetings,
The possibility of having an all district event in Kelley Park (Family Night?). Dana suggested holding off planing a family night for now, since Title 1 is required to hold a family night for the school.
DOE allows schools to have 3 bakes sales per school year, each can last no more than 3 days.
